I really think that we just require more space to occupy. More space = more opportunity for newer and emerging corps to get a foot in the door, and then alliances can be formed and we can all have our own little spots in the universe.
Ask any corp that was involved in any of the many wars that have gone on in MH, it turned what was supposed to be an enjoyable competitive experience into a job.
I was a member of SyNergy Gaming, We were part of EoN. EoN started out as 5 medium sized corps with some very talented players coming together and trying to carve out their own little corner of our current MH playing field. Large alliances (Chronos) and others who I have forgotten snagged up as much land as they could for free when PC first started. Everyone was pushing to get as much land as they could, because land means money, and money means higher end gear. Timers were even more ****** up than they are now, and we all had to alarm clock the **** out of ourselves just to keep the few districts we had, this caused the alliances to grow larger because we needed blues to help us hold districts at extremely inconvenient times, we also did the same for them.
As the alliances grew, we gathered districts. Whether it was from the new corp bluing up with us bringing their districts into the fold, or they were being taken by force. Battles raged from server up to server down, every day. It turned into such a chore to get on and see that you have 16+ PC battles to fight that day, knowing that you would have to do the same thing again tomorrow.
All because we were all running out of space.
Yes, EoN ended up "Winning PC" as some people call it, I believe EoN occupied ~95% of MH before GTA V came out and KZ4...causing a large majority of the more competitive players to flock to the newer games where they could get a fresh start in a new and exciting place and start the whole cycle over again.
Corporations and alliances were formed, grew, died, broke apart, merged, got burned out and straight up left...it happens, its the eternal ebb and flow of the EvE universe.
With more space to occupy in New Eden and a fix to district locking, it would allow each corporation to control as many planets as they could actually handle without turning this game into a job again.
Smaller corps could get a start in the outer edges of our playable universe while larger and more active corps could continue their struggle for territory and simply not care about the "Insignificant new corp way over there" that's 15+ jumps away (Reducing the amount of clones that can be sent at once for the attack) or actually having to buy a clone pack to attack them. (Whats the point, they have 1 or 2 districts in the middle of nowhere in a forgotten part of the universe)
Eventually as our playing field expanded we could end up having something akin to what they do in EvE when you look at the alliance territory images. 1-3 vast alliances holding as much territory as they can, fighting the other large alliances to keep them from getting larger, and leaving (For the most part) the smaller guys to do their thing because realistically they aren't that much of a threat (Yet). I would like to see more districts open up. But I worry that if you did that NS would just grab as many districts as they could, stick them on 12.00 EVE timers and hold them til the end of time. If they can put 61 timers on at that time, they could put 200 on, or 1000 on. I know they're locked right now, like everything else is, and that will hopefully get fixed. But NS had dozens of timers at 12.00 even without locking them at one stage.
Maybe timers should be set in stone, so the district owner can't choose when they get attacked. That way you can't get a corp or alliance from a specific region taking piles of land and putting it at a time that no else can touch. Before NS and RA dominated, Eon put the vast majority of timers at US times, and at the start of PC Cronos had 40%+ of land locked to EU times. It was never fun for anyone except the one dominant power at the time. To me it seems that the ability to change timer at will is something that hurts competition. |
